Wayne Shorter was an American jazz saxophonist and composer who became famous in the late 1950s as a member of Art Blakey’s Jazz Messengers and later as the group’s leading composer. He decided to join Miles Davis’s Second Great Quintet in the 1960s. In the future, he helped start the jazz-fusion band Weather Report.
